In
1987, owner Phyllis M Potter had just completed her Masters in Library
and Information Science at University of Washington and was poised
to pursue a career in academic library Reference. Phyllis had spent
summers on Lopez since the mid 60's, and had commuted from the island
while acquiring this most recent degree. Late that spring, as employment
options were being negotiated around the country, the tiny existing
island bookstore came up for sale... and the future was suddenly
rewritten!
Over the intervening
years the bookstore selection has grown exponentially. In Spring 2006, when it was barely possible to squeeze through the bookcrowded aisles, a move was made to a lovely, larger well lighted space next door. Currently Islehaven
Books
offers
a wide variety
of adult
fiction
and non-fiction, in addition to large Children/Young Adult sections.
Regional titles and mysteries are specialties as well.
